Garmin GPSMAP76C to 19" LCD TV?

I am putting in a 19" LCD TV on a swivel in the cabin for TV and DVD viewing and it occurs to me that it is in the perfect spot to use as a chartplotter monitor also. I have a GPS MAP 76C. Can this be done? What cable do I need? The TV I am looking at ($139 refurbished) has a VGA input and USB input. It has a 60Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1366 x 768. I've looked in the archives and googled it and haven't found an answer.

The 'output' of your GPS is only NEMA coded sentences, ie.: computer code.

To visualize on a TV/video screen, and with any 'comprehensibility' you will need a 'translator' or 'program' to do this ... typically a computer and the proper program.

GPS ----> computer (with GPS mapping program) with VGA/video output ----> TV. This is all fairly complicated/expensive in comparison to a simple sand-alone 'chartplotter'.

Depends on the chart plotter. My Garmin 5208 has a video output that I hardwired via a standard PC video cable to the monitor input on my flatscreen in the cabin. Simple installation and works great - gives larger image and better resolution than the plotter in the cockpit!

Guys, he has a Garmin Map76C .... no video output.

Some years back, before the latest incarceration of MapSource (the computer program for loading charts on the Map76C) I used to be able to run my handheld Map 76CS via USB right into the MapSource software for live tracking on the Notebook computor. A couple years later when I got new Mapsource software upgrade they had disabled this feature but provided it through a third software program called 'nRoute', some upgrade... anyway I believe you can still do his if you download the appropriate software from Garmins' site. Once you get the live tracking through a laptop you may be able to run another monitor off the laptop video out port, perhaps into a TV screen. But that is a lot of rig-a-ma-row for your end result, not worth it.
For the record the Garmin GPS Map76C unit is discontinued and you may have to really scour their site for the last software updates they had for that unit
