I am thinking of replacing some of the hardward on the stays of my Venture 25. My question is what should be the breaking/usable strength of shroud hardware? I have looked at some of that slick fancy looking stuff with pelican hooks and built in turnbuckles but am not sure what to buy. One of the PO's a useless wag put in some old turnbuckles on one side and used those wire u-bolts to clamp it down. I can't tell you how bad it looks but I am sure you can imagine. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Would that a life line or perhaps a set of baby side stays used just for raising the mast?

No, the lifelines were replaced with white coated 1/8" marine grade wire rope and some fancy doo dads I found at Marine Parts.

the Baby stays were made from clear coated galvanized 1/8" stuff I bought at Lowes.

No, my question pertains to the side shrouds/stays. I would like to replace this whole mess with new, easier to use adjusters/turnbuckles etc. I just wondered what breaking strength I needed to look for. Any suggestions?

What is on there is not good and it is good that you are replacing it. The 26's have 5/32 wire on the shrouds and 1/8th on the forestay and backstay. Not sure about the 25's.

I just finished re-rigging our boat and got the supplies from these guys....

...and the 1X19 stainless is what you want with thimbles and sleeves that are crimped on if you stay with the chain plates that are on the boat. I stayed with the stock stuff there as it is bullet proof and is suppose to be easier and better for a trailered boat if you are setting it up and down vs. the turnbuckles. The chain plates aren't that hard to adjust (just a few minutes) and once adjusted should stay adjusted for a long time.

If you go with the turnbuckles you are going to have to go to 'rotary swaged fittings and have the lines made up as you can't do that at home (more expense for all of it) or go with fittings that you can do at home, like the Sta-Lok and that are also expensive. I don't see anything to gain by going that route.

I got a swage tool.....

....like the one in the link for about $55. I can't remember if I got it from them or someone else. Do a search. It is easy to use. John on here gave me the tip of using the "U" shaped wire clamps that are on your wires to help make up the new rigging untill the sleaves have been swaged on. The tool is easy to use. If interested I'll put up a few pictures of the project.

For sure replace that rigging, doesn't look safe to me,
