Hi,
Does anyone have the manufacturer's specifications for the 1987 Hunter 23 mast?
Thanks to all.

I would contact Hunter Marine (they are still in biz) directly. They helped me out with a drawing for my H20 when my swing keel cable broke. Good luck, I had a similar issue years ago only I just was given the wrong set of sails, not the wrong mast and rigging.

you can also contact US Spar. They own all the old hunter mast dies and parts. I had a problem and the were excellent to deal with

I do not have the specs but the mast was madeby DIFFUSION and now is US Spars in Florida. I know all this because I need to buy a new mast as mine broke in 2 at the spreader. I have been going nuts trying to find one. I have not gotten in direct contact as the gentlemen that you need to deal with is at a boat show and will be back on the 2oth.

Curious what happened to make your mast snap at the spreaders, did a cap shroud part? Please don't say you drove it under a 12' bridge.

It was not that dumb. They think it was caused by one of two reasons. Either one side of the spreader broke loose because one was completely severed and the other was attached. The second thing could have been just about as dumb as driving it under a 12 foot bridge. The other possibility is that were i put the boat in you have to drive abound a horseshoe, go up the hill and then go down onto the ramp. On the corner of the "U" was a tree with the tip of a limb hanging out and the the backstay could have caught it. I went back and looked there were no leaves on the ground or anything but the backstay had a curl in it. Either way it turned into a disaster and the insurance company is not being very helpful. Also, finding a mast has become a very large challenge. The insurance is talking about totaling the boat. From what the guy at the marina says he can not see any other damage. I am screwed with a big "S".

I own an '85 Hunter 23. The mast and boom were both made by Kenyon. The info on the mast is at http://www.rigrite.com/spars/kenyon_spars/3350-MORC.html. The mast is a MORC section, (Midget Ocean Racing Class) and seems to be of good quality. RigRite is able to provide the mast complete as it came from the factory. Let me know if you need any additional info on the location of hardware on the mast, I think I have some drawings I made when I refinished my mast last spring. If not, you might have to wait until the end of October when I take the boat out of the water.

Cheers,

Chris

I had an '87 H23, and if I recall correctly, there were several different mast manufacturers for that particular model. Mine was NOT the Kenyon; I vaguely remember US Spar being able to help with a replacement mast step when I broke mine.

It may help to post pictures of your mast step, as there is a big difference between the US Spar and the Kenyon version.
