My sailboat is a 1974' and the inside paint is cracking. From what it looks like the majority of the mold only grows in the cracks. I am assuming this is because it cannot take a strong foot hold on the glossy coat. But from what I was reading, mold needs 3 things... food, moisture, and cool air. I took pretty much all the wood out of the boat and am covering it with spar varnish to keep that from molding, but i cant understand why the fiberglass is molding. I'm sure mold isn't eating the resin/glass.
This is a very big issue to me and I plan on repainting the inside of the boat to help rid this problem. What paint should I use?
Also lets hear some ideas on the prevention of mold inside our trailer-able sailboats. Considering theres not a whole lot of air to move, i've been thinking about one or two of those solar powered fans. Also note that I had to make a companionway door for it, so there is a gap that water cannot get into but the humidity can, is this a problem? Or should this just help the fans with ventilation.
