The four grommets are for housekeeping and have no affect on the sail or it's reef. Lower the sail so the reef cringle (grommet on sail at luff) can be hooked to the 'rams horn' or reef hook at the gooseneck. Pull the reef line attached to the cringle on the leech of the sail so it is in contact with the boom and secure it. Raise the sail with full halyard tension. If you want to you can tie those four grommets to the boom but they are only there to make things look tidy.
Make sure to keep your sail as flat as possible for the weather and use your vang. Dump the traveler in the puffs to control heeling and weather helm.

please describe for us what kind of system (reefing lines) you might have set up???

But -- the "old fashioned way' is this...

lower the halyard until the reef point by the mast can be hooked to the reef tack (or tie to boom)

tie reef point at the leech to the boom

raise the halyard to retighten

tie in the center reef points to gather up loose sail along the boom (need not be tight)

good luck :--) if using this system - do it at the dock until you are really sure you understand how to do it and undo it. It is much easier there than out in the hard wind and steep waves.

Bill, I just realized where you keep your boat! I was in Charlevoix harbor a couple of years ago for the Mac Race. I fell in love the area! I'm looking for a summer getaway place on the harbor, any recommendations?

All the time! It's your inner ear thinking you are still swaying. The Admiral thinks she's going to fall out of bed the next night!

Know what you mean about short seasons. We just pulled Grasshopper from LI Sound this weekend. Too much going on with kids' schedules, plus don't want to have to run down & pull her ahead of Earl and/or his remnants -- or subsequent tropical systems -- hitting Southern New England. May try to get a sail later this fall, either in the Sound or Lake Champlain, but wasn't going to leave her in the water while waiting.
