I'm seeking advice on draining bilge water from my Oday Widgeon. I'd particularly like to know if the space between the deck and hull is open (except for center board area), thus allowing bilge water on the port side to drain from the bilge plug located on the starboard side of the stern if the boat is tilted sufficiently while on land.

Advice appreciated.

The plug in the stern drains the entire space between the deck and the hull. The 80 year old owner of a widgeon, I was purchasing, forgot that plug and she filled up with water and capsized. The water appeared to be coming in from the bow but it was running under the floor.

Thanks for the tip. I'll not do that!

I also have been reminded that the bilge can be drained by suction if the plug is opened while the boat in moving forward--and that the same is true of the cockpit and a plug I have recently installed on the transom for draining rainwater when the boat is pulled onto the shore.

Anyone have advice on that?
