How do you remove the Ritchie Compass from a '92 Legend 43 Helm

Hi all, does anyone have experience removing the compass from the cockpit helm on a Legend 43? I need to remove my Ritchie PowerDamp compass from the cockpit helm of my Legend 43 to access the connections wires of my ST50 depth sounder head. The ST50 depth sounder works 40% of the time at best. I think the problem might be low voltage getting to the tranducer making it "go south" when stressed with currents, cavatation and the like in the water.

I've heard that the compass can really be messed up if isn't reinstalled properly.

Any advice would be appreciated.

There are four screws securing the compass to the binnacle. Remove these four and the compass simply lifts off. There is a two wire power feed to the compass for the night light to disconnect after you lift it.

Thanks Alan. There's about 10 or so small and large ss phillips head screws on the compass base. Is it safe to assume that the large are holding the compass to the binnacle? With the arrangement of my helm, the compass is about 3 feet away from the steering wheel right below a ss protector U bar. Thanks.

Mike, if you go to the Ritchie Navigation website you can find your model number and a template of the bolt mounting pattern. This should show you which screws to remove.

Thanks for you help Alan, I went to the web site and found the template and install descriptions for what looks like my compass, and now know to remove the large screws to get the compass out.
