Which Slip Would You Choose?

I have chartered 30'+ sailboats for many years and just bought my 1st 30' sailboat and when I went to get a slip (large lake) they had 2 open. One slip had 1 finger, the other 2 fingers, meaning a horse shoe type slip with dock on 3 sides as opposed to 2.

I chose the one with 2 fingers thinking it would reduce the chance of my neighbors boat hitting mine or mine hitting his.

Which would you have chosen?

The one with a little pole and flag on a small float marking the heavy-duty nylon line leading down to the 5/16" chain and the 250-lb mushroom anchor embedded in the bottom.

Slip Choice

The two fingered one. You could get to both sides of the boat easily. Besides, you can tie the boat so that it is positioned in the center of the slip, no rubbing by the fenders. Also it may be a security advantage, thieves want to get on and get off , if they have to pull the boat over, it would take too much time.

I choose the one with the most advantageous position in the marina... for me that would be pointing upwind, or where the least adverse wind conditions are. Or the closest one to the parking lot. Or the one with the quietest neighbor. Or one least effected by passing boats. I have a two sided slip.. but I only use one side for access...because my neighbor uses the other one for his boat. The only advantage is it's a little easier to wash the hulls without re positioning the vessel.

I really don't see any security advantage.

Definately choose the two finger or single load slip. You never know who your neighbors will end up being.

Two fingers!!!!! I tie the boat in the center where it doesn't touch. Even with fenders beating against a dock is not good for a boat.

with a 2 finger slip, there is less chance of having unforeseen hits. also is easier to dock boat---and prepare for storm activity. i vote for 2 finger slippage,even tho i am a die hard anchorer/moorer.
