Wohoo, I won the auction! Sometime next week the boat should be delivered and I can start getting it seaworthy.

Madscientist, did you get your American? I just received a call saying I can pick up my American which came from a lot of four too. Will you be parking at KM?

Buwahahahahaha two people that will soon be trying to figure out how to get every last penny of the budget past the Admiral to pour into that whole in the water.

Welcome aboard!

I have a line on one, the price and terms of sale are still being discussed. Everything I can find on it suggests it would be a great starter boat for me. I have no experience and am trying to get into a sailing course. I have a very small budget and am looking for a boat that:

1. Is within my budget to purchase and prepare to seaworthiness; it is.
2. Has a positive flotation hull; this does.
3. Has a main and foresail rig so I can learn the handling of two sails; it does.
4. Does not require marina storage; it doesn't.
5. Can confidently and safely carry two; it seems to.

I would appreciate any first-hand experiences from those that have owned or had the opportunity to sail this boat, or one similar to it. My one concern is its stability in coastal waters. I would be using it in calm seas around a pacific island.

Sorry so late in responding.

I own an American Sail 14.6 in FL. I sail in Intracoastal, ocean and or a lake. I have rigged it with roller furling jib and a Bimini. It is a pretty stable boat and sail pretty good.

If you are unsure about it's stability I would suggest a couple of batteries installed one on each side of the centerboard up forward. This is what I did so I could carry the Bimini when I sail ocean. It takes a lot of wind to bring her on her side and she will recover 100% of time. The centerboard on this boat is pretty heavy adding to stability.

Any Qs please post here.

Best

Yup, got a thread in here about it. Do NOT take the one next to the power boat. I saw them drop it several feet when trying to move it. I looked underneath and it seems to have taken the hit like a trooper but why chance it? I am in contact with American about parts. After you do an inventory of what you need for yours let me know. Maybe we can order our stuff together and save some shipping costs. ;)

I sent American and email asking for a parts list. If you have one please forward it. Thanks again for the links for parts. Mine cleaned up nice but the rope or lines will need replacing.
