CS 27 - Ready to make an offer

We are ready to make an offer on our first boat, a new-to-us 1979 CS 27. Its fairly original in terms of parts (sails are newer), but its like going to an old Italian couples home...original but spotless and well kept. Pride of ownership abounds, and no damp/wet/spongy decks, etc. You could eat off the engine.

We're going to do the preliminary survey this week - any advice out there from CS owners? Is there any weak areas on the boat?

The CS 27 is built like a tank, perhaps one of the most robustly built fin keel boats in its size range. As with any old boat be sure to do a full survey including a full rig survey by a qualified rigging specialist. Most general surveyors do "cursory" rig inspections and engine inspections. Even the cleanest boats can hide surprises..

Cs 27

Our 1st sail boat was a 1978 CS 27 we loved it. Solid boat that took any weather we threw at it. Everything was pretty easy to work on and up grade. Although getting at the back of the engine was a little more challenging. You will enjoy this model.

Yup. You learn a lot about people when you buy their boat. Two things I know about my PO's.

She was a compulsive cleaner.

He never saw the inside of a marine supply store.

Looked at a CS27

I looked at one of these boats not long ago when a friend of mine was interested in buying it. Very impressed with the way the boat is put together. Is certainly well and heavily built.
