What do you think of starting a trip in October in a Hunter 30 and sailing Murmansk, Russia retracing the route of the liberty ships?
It shouldn't be as hard as sailing from Cape Horn to Hobart starting in June.

Would be safer than sailing in the summer when floating icebergs can be a real problem. At least in late fall or early winter the bergs are much less.

Other than that other problems will be that the 'bears' will be out on the ice, will be VERY hungry and looking for 'food', and the easterly winds will be 'roaring', so it would probably be faster to go up through the NW Passage to Murmansk.

The 'high latitudes' are not a place to be in a small boat. Even in 'summer' one can easily become 'ice-bound' - I did once for ~2 weeks and that was in a canoe. ;-)

Even if it's not the trip itself, or the polar bears that'll get ya, it's those guys on the land when you dock. They may be a tad suspicious.:)

I dont think there's enough Vodka in all of Russia to get me to do that trip.

Peggy , With a new hip to recover from I have designated myself as ornamental and of almost no useful purpose for the next month and a half or two. I could use a helper on this project. ;) LOL
