Not sure he's in Nassau but I've got a friend in the Bahama's who has Verizon. He can call out but folks in the US can't call him. This probably doesn't help.

ditto with the above... you can call out but you wont be able to receive calls. Expect MONSTEROUS roaming charges in the Bahamas.

Best and cheapest way in the Bahamas for contact used to be SKYPE from an internet connect .... but this is now becoming blocked by Batelco although some of the more remote and less popular areas still arent blocked.

In the Bahamas nearly everyone (including govt. services) uses the marine VHF frequencies instead of the telephone for 'short range' communications. So, if you're anchored near the Nassau airport (in one of the small bays on the west end of New Providence - weather permitting), this may be your easiest way to communicate. Ch 68, 69, 71, etc.

On my last trip to the Bahamas (2008)...I sent (and received) text messages to keep in contact with family in the U.S. If I remember correctly, this did not incur any addtional cost as my plan included unlimited text messages. My provider is Sprint, but this should be the same for others.... you can call Verizon and ask.
