Has anyone replaced the lifelines? Is it easy to do or does it need to be outsourced to a Rigging expert?

I haven't done it, but you can get them prefabbed or get a kit like those from Suncor. The Suncor kits use mechanic fittings stronger than the wire itself. I fount kits without a gate for as low as $110 but kits with a gate are more expensive at around $225.

On the plus side, mechanical fittings can usually be reused (although on some the cone may need to be replaced) so you will save the next time around. The Suncor kits come in white vinyl coated and uncoated wire. Uncoated is better as the vinyl coating promotes corrosion. The coated lifelines on my boat have been replaced at least once and will need to be replaced again no doubt. However, the original uncoated rigging on my boat is fine.

If you want to go with a pro, rigging only and rigrite have done good work for me in the past. If you follow their measuring guides you should do fine. Both are very helpful on the phone in my experience.

Just checked an the store on this site does stock some Suncor products, but doesn't list the lifeline kits. If you decide to go that way please consider giving the site store a chance to earn your business. If you call they can tell you if they can get you the lifeline kits at a good price.

I have the Suncor lifelines on Second Wind. Very satisfied. Strong fittings and the quality is very high. Since I have netting for the dogs, I opted for the no gate lines. Easy to install (once you get pass the fear of messing up the first one, that is!) -- all told, took about 90 minutes to do all four lines.

It is good to know that someone has had a good experience. The price is okay and it would be convenient to do a line a year as part of a replacement plan too.
