I put this here for maximum exposure. It's not an ad as if I have to do this, she will be free to a good home....

As much as I hate the idea of having to walk away, the last 15 months have put me into a corner. I've lost my truck (no biggie) and will lose my home come July 20th. The job market sucks here and I may have to move out of state. I'm not looking for sympathy of any kind but I may have to give up Oh Joy in the process. She's a 1961 Knutson yawl, S&S design # 539, built by the Thomas Knutson yard in Halesite NY as a one off version with Solent Staysail stay and a bowsprit for the charter trade in the Great Lakes. She was originally launched as "Sandstone" and later cruised the Caribbean and points South for 17 years.

Here she is in better times:

Many of you have followed her restoration up here. She lies currently in Bellingham on the hard with her decks, house and sticks off. She still need some ribs replaced and the decks put on. I have enough Black Locust to finish the framing and will continue to do so. I also have enough Aquatech to do the bulkhead replacement and about half of the decking and will continue working on that as long as I can.

She's a great boat which has sailed far and wide, through all kinds of weather to bring her crew home safe each and everytime. She surely deserves better than the breaker's saw.....

While this isn't yet set in stone, I thought to try and line up interested and capable suitors before a hard deadline hits. If I am able, I will keep and finish her. I still plan to take her around....

Charlie,

Soooo sorry to hear that. If I was closer I would offer all I could in the way of help so you could splash and sail off on a shoe string cruise but I would guess just the materials at this point are a killer.

You would be best to post her where she can be appreciated, for all she is worth, on the Wooden Boat Forums. Most here have not a clue about wood boats but we all love to look at them. We have so many woodies here in Maine rotting into the ground that I hope yours can be saved and finished. It kills me every time I drive by one. They are like puppies to me and I just want to adopt one and save it but I know I just can't..

Good luck and if you want to move, Maine has LOTS of wood boat builders and I think you could get at least get a job as an apprentice with your current set of boat skills..

What is your field of work other than boats maybe someone here knows of work?

That's one beautiful boat. I hope you can find a way to keep going with her.

Maine isn't so far out of the eastern seaboard IT/web action is it? Portland looks to be a train-ride away from Boston. Also I know one guy who's running a small web/marketing shop in Portland.

Me- I'm a laid-off web programmer, mostly back-end stuff. I'm still getting by on freelance, but for a break I've spent the last two months 'apprenticing' as a boat diesel mechanic, because the weather's been too nice to sit in a putty-coloured cubicle all day. The money bites, but I'm getting a tan, losing weight and learning tons about boat systems.:D

Hang in there.

If you're still looking I know a company near Elliot Bay that I'm pretty sure uses people with your expertise, or at least similar. I know they have a number of QA people. It would be on a Mac platform and that's an expanding one.

In fact, I'm using their browser right now.

I am really sorry to hear this. This economy stinks. When I was looking for work it took me almost 6 months and I was a certified Police Officer! To this day I am still stinging from the 9K paycut that I haven't recovered yet!

I hope that things will work out for you.

I know it's not exactly up your alley, but I have a shipment of fitness equipment coming in in a month or so if the Taiwanese will finish it already.
Anyway, we don't have anyone in the Seattle area selling them yet. Sales would be primarily to high schools, colleges and other sports training facilities. There is plenty of those around. The Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio spurs have prototypes I built. It is completely unique and there is no competition for it...yet.
Anyway, www.run-rocket.com is the product if you think you can sell them.
