Not sure of the correct name for these lines that contain the main sail when lowering it down on the boom. I have a 1979 O'day 22 mast head rig that I want to install these on the mast and boom.
What type of fasteners on the mast and boom?
Where should the fasteners be located on the mast and boom?
How high above the boom should the lines be divided?
What type and size of line?
Snap fasteners at the boom ends of the lines would ease dismantling
and perhaps at the mast ends.
I have run search on several forums and websites and got nothing.
I would appreciate some input and websites on this matter.

You may want to look at the kits for all of the differnt lazy jacks. They are not the end all and create a new set of problems. I do not like them but when you have a few hundred square feet of main like my Hunter Vision 36 there is not many options.

One of the biggest issues is the battens getting caught in the jack lines. You really need to have the boat directly into the wind.

If you go to some of the sailboat product manufacturers web sites, you might be able to find pictures of what they have and some installation directions, then buy theirs or build your own with that info.

I took this shot of my Harken Lazy Jacks I just installed. We were on a starboard tack during the shot but it shows the starboard line tied forward on the boom. Once we tacked it was easy to raise the main nearly the entire way without pointing too hard into the wind. (no picture because of dead batteries taking pictures of me fixing the shifting cable).

Steve,
What length battens are you referring too? Short or full length battens? My O'day 22 main sail has 4 short battens,

Thanks David S
