A little help, PLEASE :)

Good day all...
I've owned the '82 8.0M 'B' for 16 months after acquiring it from a marina where it had sat for 3 years. I'm going to launch it May 8th and I have some running rigging questions. ( I've NEVER seen this boat rigged )
Sales brochures and I-Net gleaned images have not provided the purpose/positioning of the two lines at the fore-end of the boom. They exit on the botom side, are knotted, and spring-loaded jaws lock each of the two. They run (internally) aft and exit topside with the right-side line approximately 4' longer than the left-side line.

Can someone please assist this eager, yet clueless S 2 owner ?

Your boom lines sound exactly like those on my S2 6.9, which are used as follows: the Port line is the topping lift and should exit the aft end of the boom and attach to the topping lift line running to the mast top. The Starboard side line is the jiffy reef line and should exit the aft end of the boom and go to the reefing point on the mainsail.

Thanks for the reply as well as the references, but the outhaul on this rig looks pretty standard.
It's the spring-loaded jaws (forward) and the TWO lines aft, separate from the outhaul connection, that are not familiar to me.

This sounds closer to the function, however the lines exiting at the rear have no knots, custom ends, clevis's, etc.
If there is an image or illustration out there, I'd better understand the workings of this.

Reefing lines

The jaws are the clamps for your reefing lines. Check your main to see if you have one or two sets of cringles above the foot. If you have one set, you have a main built for a single reef. If you have two, it is built for two reefs. You could use one for a topping lift if you wish, but that is not their purpose per say. It took me a while to figure this out myself so I made this drawing up to help others as it is a pretty frequent question.

If you have two sets, the set with the cringle higher on the sail goes to the bail on the boom further forward.

Some boats, like mine, don't use the jaws as the lines run to the cockpit. So in my case there are a set of blocks on the mast in front of the boom directing the lines to the base of the mast where they are routed aft along the cabin top.
