I just purchased my first boat. It's a 1976 Catalina 30. I've heard a lot of good things about this site and look forward to reading up on all the posts.

I was in your shoes October 2007. I can't tell you how much I've learned from this site. I suggest you join the International Catalina 30 Association.

When I bought my boat I had almost no boating experience other than being a guest on occasion.

Good luck. The Catalina 30 is a great boat. I love mine. It has a HUGE cabin and it is a descent sailor. I have spend lots of time out on my boat (14 days straight at one time) and it is very comfortable for one or two people.

Enjoy the new boat and don't hesitate to ask any question as the only dumb one is the one that isn't asked!

Congradulations on the boat................
As so many have mentioned, the 30 is a great all around vessel known for her spacious interior and great handling. Being a '76 can I assume you have tiller steering and Atomic 4 power? This place is a great source of information, ideas and support. Like Obsession stressed, their are no dumb questions here! You can learn much about your boat by going on the International Catalina 30 site as Bob S suggested.

Well, I'm in Pasadena right now. I have about 2 months before I splash...boat needs some work. I'm not sure where to keep it yet. I checked out Bowley's and Herrington and like both of them.

Where is your home port?

Shipwright Harbor Marina, Deale MD, across from Herrington North. Previous owner had it at Herrington South, but he wanted to keep his slip. We moved in April 3rd, had a rollicking Saturday w/ 15-18 knots and marine layer type fog! Quite an adventure at the renaming ceremony pouring champagne over the bow... we're rookies too
