Hello all, I am finally installing the starter battery this weekend and was hoping for a little confirmation. I am rerouting my Alternator output directly to the housebank with a #2 and want to put a fuse at the battery. By my calculations it should be a 135 Amp fuse. Is that about right. If so I want to buy one of these. Just want to confirm the amp. I may upgrade later to a 90amp alternator.

Thanks.

I was wondering what the advantage of running the wire directly from the alternator to the house battery bank was.
Paul the benefits are;

1- No more worries about fried diodes.

2- Accurate voltage sensing.

However you should NOT wire directly to the house battery unless you have either a VSR/ACR (voltage sensitive relay/ automatic charging relay) or a unit like the Echo Charger or Balmar Duo Charger.

Follow me on this one. If you sense/wire directly to the house bank, bank 1, but do not have an ACR or Echo type unit installed this means you can select the battery being used via the 1/2/BOTH/OFF switch.

If you select bank two as your source and the alt is connected to bank 1 you will draw down bank two and not replenish it unless the ALL function is selected. In short without an ACR or Echo type charger I would not wire directly to the house bank and instead would leave it wired through the common post of the battery switch..

With an ACR/Echo you can still select bank 2 but it will automatically be getting charged via the combiner or Echo even with the house bank being direct wired...

Mainesail, I am going to run an ACR between the housebank and my Reserve Battery. I am leaning towards and ACR and I am still wondering about my original question about the fuse-breaker between the Alternator and Housebank. Is what I have spec'ed out ok.http://bluesea.com/productline/overview/13

Maybe I should change the wording of this statement...

"truckman
I was wondering what the advantage of running the wire directly from the alternator to the house battery bank was."

Truckman
I was wondering what was the reason of your choice to run the wire directly from the alternator to the house battery bank was.

Also what is the reasoning or rational why are you putting a fuse at the battery location.

There should be a voltage regulator on the generator:confused:

An ACR from Bluesea looks like a good choice....don't seem to see wiring diagram or recommendation from Bluesea for the fuse you want.

My thinking is.... what happens to your alternator when your fuse at the battery blows.

OBTW
On my 1/2/BOTH/OFF switch.... I have installed a Grandkids pin so you cannot move the switch to the OFF postion thus stress out the diodes when the engine is running.

I do not have an ACR installed in my battery system.
