I finished replacing the raw water pump last night. I switched from a Sherwood to an Oberdorfer. The Sherwood had (2) pretty heavy walled brass barbed elbows. Unfortunately it also used a ½ NPT to a 5/8 hose barb. The Oberdorfer comes with 3/8 NPT so I couldn’t use those fittings. I had a horrible time finding 90° elbows with 3/8 NPT to 5/8 barb. I finally found them at McMaster Carr but they appear to be a bit flimsy. The wall thickness isn’t what I hoped. The barb isn’t long enough for 2 hose clamps although the original Sherwood only had one hose clamp. Can anyone recommend a good source for fittings?

Thanks Bob

Thanks Tim,

No luck. In order to get from a 3/8 NPT to a 5/8 hose barb I would have to make it from 3 pieces if it's even possible. I think maybe those using the Oberdorfer pumps must have 1/2 hose leading to and from it.

Bob, I have an Oberdorfer(202M I think) with 3/4" hoses. I will be getting in the boat tomorrow and I will see what I have. I do know that it is a single fitting.

Stu,

I'm done with the replacement but I didn't like the fittings I got from McMaster Carr. I thought they were a little flimsy compared to the ones I removed from the Sherwood.

Look at Rich Allen's picture#2:

The top fitting looks like the one's I bought, the lower one looks like the one that was on the Sherwood.

I just was curious if anyone had a good fitting supplier?

Bob, call Depco and ask them, I understand you already have the pump, but maybe they know about the fittings. Got nothin' to lose...
