Cool Boat, Roger ! My first was about 10 feet long and about 18 inches wide.. It looked a lot like a cow watering trough... with pointy ends. The ends were made of bent tin roofing material and sealed with tar.. I learned why they don't melt a lot of tar on an open wood fire.. but after that smoky experience, I got it melted and poured into the gaps.. Got me around on the pond for perch fishing! Grandma "asked" me to build another watering trough.. which I did.. Much easier to build without the pointy ends..

Looks slow. We fared better on the Allegheny. The spring ice thaw would bring all sorts of vessels, even cabins, down the river. We only had to be at the outside bend of the river to capture a fishing boat or canoe. Kept us in boats for many years.
A half mile up the tracks was a siding for the Wolf's Head oil refinery. The huge cardboard used to line the boxcars made great sail material. Nail a 2 x 4 to a thwart and away we went. Well only on a reach but we thought that was the only possible point of sail anyway.

I guess you spent your best efforts on the propulsion system, oh and the helm chair showed some promise. Great picture.
My first was a joint effort with my brother up on Rangley Lake. We found a log about a foot and a half in diameter and ten or twelve feet long and naiedl an outrigger to it and found some boards for paddles. Caught hell from our Dad.
