I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
The fiberglass floor of my Catalina 30 has this grayish, dingy look to it. I clean and scrub and clean and scrub and it stays the same. I figure that it is just ground into the paint.

Options:

Carpet the boat
Paint the floor

I don't like the idea of boat carpet in the cabin of my boat for many reasons. I would have to cut it and bind it. Furthermore it will never look just right in there. Carpet can also be dangerous at times if it can come up.

Painting is a pain in the butt and I have no idea what I would use. Also, there would be an annoying paint line at some point.

What other options are there out there? What would you do?

I use bathroom rugs, non-skid, cheap, quick dry, easy to replace and come in all sizes, styles and colors.

Since the floors are so curvy in my boat, I think your's are too, there is a synthetic teak flooring at home depot that I am considering installing. It comes in planks and you have to glue it down.
I'd like real wood, but the curves to the floor seem to prohibit it.

I had the same dilema a year ago and decided to go the carpet route. I figured I could always throw it away if I didn't like it. I found a carpet on the internet that is used a lot in boats and has a backing that won't disintegrate. I made a template and the final product is one piece that is not glued down, but dosen't move. I went with the light gray color and have been quite happy with it....I will try to find my receipt and get you the name of the company so you can look it up on the internet.

Another idea that I would consider is a product called Trafficmaster Allure Resilient Flooring. Check it out on Home Depot web site (sku #685574). I like it because you don't have to glue it down...it self adhesive strips that join each other. It comes in 6" x 36" planks. I checked it out at my store and it had a realistic wood feel underfoot.

I have enough projects, so I am just keeping the carpet for now. Good luck.

The soft squeezable rubber mats. They help with a five year old walking while the boat is heeled over too.

BA, of course you've tried a little Oxalic acid solution? Brightens up the exterior fiberglass like nobody's biddnes: may work as well below.

There's also vinyl sheet flooring from Home Depot. It comes in two types, one that needs glue and one that doesn't and there are all kinds of designs. One of the bathrooms in my house has the stuff on the floor so it looks like damp environments are okay. I am using the glue kind to replace the horrible old carpet/cloth liner on my boat and I can't see why it couldn't be used for the sole (I got the idea from someone on this forum). Some of the wood patterns have a nice embossed fake wood texture so it might offer some grip if wet. If you get the non glue type I think I recall the H.D. associate saying there is a double sided tape needed for around the edges to keep it from sliding. It should make it easy to remove if needed.

edited to add: the sheet flooring comes on a 12' roll, you pick how much you need and they cut it for you. It cuts easily with a sharp razor blade or even scissors so cutting to fit the sole would be pretty easy.

We put the stuff with the fake wood pattern down in our kitchen and utility room and liked it so much we added it in the living room and 2 bathrooms. It's waterproof, rugged, and looks terrific. I think it would work well on a boat with one caveat - it seems to be a bit slippery the first few days after you put it down. After that it's fine though.

The stuff we got comes in strips about 3 feet by 6 inches. It has overlapping edges with adhesive that you stick together, top on one side to the bottom on the other. The only place it attaches to the floor is around the edges where you use double-sided tape. It can be cut with a razor and straight edge.

We had some left over from our projects and I used it to "renew" the chair mat carpet protector under my office chair.

I built the apartment I live in in the second floor of our warehouse. A friend gave me some of that 3'X6" plank flooring they had left over from a remodel. It did require glue. I glued it down in the kitchen, and (I know this is a little ghetto, but I wasn't into spending money on a place I don't own) I used it on the counter tops also, so I wouldn't have to go out and buy formica. I have been leaving water on it for 4 years or so now and it is still perfect around the sink. I think it would be great on a cabin floor on a boat. I really want real wood floors in the boat, but vinyl planks is probably more realistic with my budget.

Couldnt you route the edges with a bead and flute bit for boat planking to solve the floor curvature problem?

The floor curves up as well as around the floor. It is like standing in a bowl inside my boat. I live in San Antonio(not a coast town) and they don't have the teak here. My boat is in Corpus Christi. At the homedepot there, they have the vinyl teak planks. They bend easily so the can fit on the curve of the floor.
I don't know the part number for the flooring there.
The pic is my kitchen floor. That is an extra piece that I have lying around. It has a texture to it, I think this is light oak.
I think a good idea would be to buy light colored and teak, and slice the light colored and make a teak and holly looking floor. When I get around to doing it, it is likely that is what I will do/try.

if go the carpet route.. know it's the easy way out but if don't want to measure, cut etc, catalina has replacement carpet $300. haven't seen yet but assuming will get this week and put in the boat on the weekend.

Pleas post the number when you can. My home depot doesnt seem to carry it either. They can order it however, if I can tell them what item #.

My cabin sole is in really good shape, but I would like to look at it to finish off the vberth.
