I need to step my mast to replace OEM wooden spreaders. Does the C30 mast step like the C27? If not any words of wisdom/experience?

The mast is stepped on a plate. Disconnect and label all the wires. Clean the plate and the bottom of the mast before restepping, use Lanacote. Install a coin on the mast plate for good luck. Consider replacing all the lamp cord Catalina used to use for mast wiring.

Thanks

Stu; Thanks for the prompt reply. I guess I am really asking if this mast pivots around the base and therefore I could use an A frame rig to lower it or does it have to be lifted off by a crane?

Not any more difficult than a C-27 mast. Basically a 2 man job. Use a normal mast stand at most marinas. You don't need a crane. The mast weighs about the same as a good wife (300lbs). Don't mess with any A frame rigs. It comes straight up off the step. Also replace the sheaves (I spell everything wrong). Leave a tail on the loop of line that you use to re-step the mast because it will get jammed under the spreaders. With a tail on it you can pull it down.

I have unstepped the mast on my Catalina 30 # 573.
Im 66 so I decided not to do it myself. Our marina has a small pole suitable for 20-25 ft boat masts. So I hired a boat repair outfit for $120. It was well worth it. I also ran new wires inside the masts and installed LED nav lights. All went well. Good luck if you try it yourself. You might want to reseal the chain plates were they go thru the deck while the mast is down.
