Backyard no more?

today, with a little luck and some torqe provided by an inline six in a four wheel drive grand cherokee, i will pull my boat out of my somewhat muddy backyard and into my driveway. That will allow me to jack the trailer, repack my bearings, and begin the final preparations for hauling the boat back to the lake next weekend. I have the lift reserved for applying the bottom paint. Then re-rig (a word i may have just made up) and hopefully splash!:dance:

An exciting time I know. Wish you great success in the Splash and a wonderfull year on the water. I only take my 26 out of the water every couple of years, I know the feeling of putting her back in the water. Good Luck

Hey great Keith! I haven't received my paint in the mail yet but I removed my boat cover last week and I jacked my boat up a little higher on the stands. I'm washing her bottom to get the dirt out of the old bottom paint. I did about 1/3 of the boat yesterday and got tired and came in the house for a nap. I do a little each day. Good luck with the splash you lucky son of a gun.

congratulations! It is a wonderful feeling the first time you splash a boat. here is a picture of ours in May of 2006 when we got it to the boat ramp for the first time.

good show !im a few months away,my truck needs a rear:( and unless i put a hitch on my 94-cuttlass supreame,(more of a jalloppie!!!)this means my boat and rally car now have a back seat but ill keep pluging.this weekend i wired the pulpitlite,cabin-dome,stern lt, acc plug, fuse, and junc box, a switch and power on lite.now i got to pic a bow lite or 2,as u know it is cluttered far front so im not sure what is code for coast guard reg,s regarding how far back a single can be,i might have to use a port& starboard any how have a good sail nx wk.

I did it! The little jeep pulled like a champ. I think my truck would have just spun the back wheel in the mud. The only problem i had was when i left the ladder against the rear starboard quarter,and as i raised the trailer tong to get it hitched, it lowered the rear of the boat trapping the lip of the ladder underneath the rub rail. It bent the rubrail. I probabley created a leak there, but it is in the hold so no bid deal (i hope)
lesson learned: do a walk around to be sure everything is cleared!

Trinka, I wish i know a quarter (or heck I'll settle for a 50th) of what you know about boats and sailing
Appleman: that picture of the little girl dancing in front of the boat says it all! I hope to be dancing like that this weekend!
Wulfe67: I know what you mean, i can't seem to get free time on the boat for yard chores and house repair..maybe this weekend i will get the undivided time I need.

A pre mast raising checklist is almost a must. Make one out while the experience is fresh, laminate it and keep it in the boat.

what kind or rub rail do you have on the 26? On my 35 it is a plastic extrusion with a black rubber insert. I've replaced a length that got damaged during launching by the travel lift. Rudy sells the extrusion so if you need some a short piece let me know, it comes in 25 foot lengths and I needed a couple feet. i have 20 feet or so in my ggarage.

will do trinka....having some great sailing time here, about to load the truck and go out for a couple of days in just a minute!!!!
it will be a good time to learn how to go up the mast, and come back down

i didn't replace my rubrail yet, i did patch it at the bow where i had to cut a chunk out to get to my headstay chainplate (terminology?). but i have whatever is the original, it is some sort of white plastic with a rubber insert. no very attractive. rubrail is on my august to do list,,,,,maybe

it was leaking where it is bolted through the deck on the top part of the bracket. you can see it at the top of this picture. i have the pulpit hanging over it. It was leaking through and there was no way i could see to repair it without removing it.
I spent monday and tuesday on the boat at the marina. I organized the hold by attaching a bucket where the original battery platform is, hung some elastic type nets here and there, and put the galley in shape. I will snap some pics of that next time i am out, i am really pleased with all the storage room i have now and how it is set up. we went sailing but there was very little wind so we mainly motored around and the headed back to our slip after dark, with no flashlight! lesson learned.
