Hey Ross

Words of encouragment. My mother had a hip replaced a little over five years ago. Right after Katrina. She was 90 at the time. She came home and began to carry on her life as she wanted to live it. She is pain free now, and says the new hip is better than the origional. On the other hand, she has some friends who have had a replacement, and are still sitting in a damn chair. For some reason, I believe you are gonna be more like my mother, and be up and around and doing things. It is just a matter of following the Dr.s advice, gettting up and moving around, and will power. I think you are gonna be good to go.

My surgeon told me that the current procedure is to cut back the damaged bone until he gets to solid tissue in both the femur and the pelvis .
Sounds like you have some core rot. Tell him not to skimp on the epoxy while he is repairing your hip.

My mother was in her 80's when her hip broke and had to be replaced in March .My dad died in May that year and she walked across the cemetary without a cane. In august she visited my sister in Germany and went hiking in the mountains.
I am not very good at sitting around and being waited on. I honor the restrictions on lifting and bending but I also push the envelope.

Good news today! For reasons that I never had made clear to me I was ordered to have a cardiac stress test today. The results were completely normal. My spine surgeon also saw me today and was pleased with his work but told me to hire an 18 year old for my heavy lifting. He sees no reason not to go ahead with the hip replacement. So Zeehag, If you should show up at my door this summer you will just have to take your chances on what manner of welcome you will get. I promice that Nancy and I will make you most welcome. But I have a bad reputation to maintain. lol! ;)

we did our total stove replacement and didnt even have to do exercises lol----i hop eyour hip is as easy for you as the stove was for us--lol--just do your exercises and stay strong and you will be fine--follow the rules they give you to the letter ..lol...especially the angles and degrees of bend allowed at which points in your recovery!! will be a breeeze!!!!--oh yes and take your pain meds !!!!! especially the anti inflammatory ones..is inflammation that makes the pain.....so prevention is the way to keep going instead of becoming dependent!!

Darlin' I am a complete wimp when it comes to pain and I am blessed with a non addictive body. I take what i need when I need it and if I don't need it, I don't bother. Sometimes all it takes to cure a problem is money, as with a new stove. Now you just have to convince Phil to get busy and cook. lol . ;)
The weather today was delightful. Nearly 70 degrees and sunshine and light work that I can do standing flat footed on the ground with a chair handy when i get tired. Snow damage to the shrubs.
Enjoy the flowers year number four on this plant. lol

Good thinking.

... He said that the service life of the procedure was 25-30 years. I am only 71 so I may have to have it done one more time.
Ross, I like the way you are thinking.

Re: Good thinking.

Consider, if I had been afflicted this way 50 years ago I would have simply ended up crippled. We have made wonderful advances in materials and in medicine. We sail in fiber reinforced plastic boats with lines and sails made from plastic fiber. Our anchors are more advanced than the fisherman, our sails don't rot, we have light wieght diesel engines and the doctors can fix a bad heart or a worn out joint. We can buy insurance to cover much of the cost and we can live to see our great grand children. Take good care of yourselves, life is good.

I have a friend who was alive-a-board for years. She collected the big throw-away pots the landscapers use and planted her garden in those and hid them in the low bushes along shore. Once you get cat nip started it is hard to kill in the garden. in pots is different.

I finally got back to my boat . First time since she was hauled out last fall. 7 feet of snow and six inches of rain didn't leave many marks Had about a gallon of water in the lazerette and the bilge pump ran for about ten seconds. Beyond that the boat was dry and sweet smelling.
