Hi just wondering how many sailors made the trip south for warmer weather in Florida or Bahama's this year.
I am only living here in Florida now 3 years and can't believe how cold it has been here Jan,Feb and March is not looking so good either what's up.
What was your trip south like this year.

I'm comin' I think. Leaving the 16th with any luck. Should be nicely in the 70's after the terrible weather down there. And if I got really, really lucky, might make the trip to Fort Jefferson. When are you guys leaving?

Had friends take ten days in the keys and they reported rain for several days and only a couple warm enough to catch some tanning rays.

I know at least ten boats that went south this winter...most are fairly unhappy with how cold it has been down there...

South

Nick,

When I took L'Attitude South in late October, there were very few other boats on the waterway. Quite different from years past.

When I got to Marathon Oct 28th there were also far fewer boats there than in past years. After Christmas, when the really cold weather hit, the marinas and mooring field in and around Marathon did fill up and remain full; but no one has been really happy,... their hoped for escape from the the cold has been far less than expected. Instead of 70's/60's , it's usually been 60's/50's and often much cooler. ( I have been told that there are far fewer boats over in the Bahamas this Winter also).
Coldest Winter in the Keys that almost anyone down there can remember. (And windy and stormy )

We have been very lucky on return (long weekend) trips back down to have had fairly nice weather windows,.... just the luck of the draw.
I'm going back down on 3/30 and leaving on 3/31 to head North, back up to Norfolk.... praying for nice, calm, warm, weather from So. Fla. to Virginia, but fearing otherwise.

Been a delay

There has definately been a delay in my heading south. Had planned on being outta here by the first week of Dec. Unfortunately my mother fell and broke her pelvis, so I had to do some baby sitting. Been ready to leave now for nearly a month, just waiting on a decent looking weather window to head across the gulf for Isla Mujeras. The way these fronts have been coming through, have no desire to get caught by one in mid gulf. Looking good for departure first part of next week. Have fingers crossed.
