I'm new to sailing, I have a S2 8.0b 1977 that has water buildup in the floor at the stairs. There was a 1/4" hole the water was coming out of after I removed the flooring. When looking in the bilge area I didn't see a drain from that area. Is this a design flaw?

My 9.2A has water at the base of the stairs. In discussions with others it may be due to water splashing up through a leaky rudder bearing seal. It is a stuffing box. I think it is true, because the only time I noted water puddling there was after I was in a following sea. It has ruined the teak and holly sole, which is badly delaminated and needs replacing. I need to fix the issue before I spend a thousand bucks replacing the sole.

What I find odd is that there is noway for water that gets in from leaks has no way to drain to the bilge.

Unfortunately it happens. When the boats are new they may not be designed to funnel all the water that might potentially leak in somehow to the bilge. I have a leak at the toe rail forward and have had a water tank leak and neither went into the bilge that I noticed. In the case of my potential rudder leak I think I can build some guides out of caulk to direct the water to the bilge, but really would only do so if I couldn't somehow fix the leak.

Bigger hole in the floor

Well I had to do it! I drilled a 1" hole in the floor to see better. In the hole it looks to be BB's but they won't come out. Do you think that this is part of the keel or foam?

i talked to an s2 owner back in oct that had been to the factory when they were in production....in his words he stated that they were mixing lead shot and resin in a mixer and pouring the keel full in order to creat the ballast ....he also called the keel a LOYEDS KEEL .......

I have the same problem! water under the cabin sole and not draining to the bilge.

Did you find any solution?

I didn't find solution to that problem. I also had water in the area of ice box on the floor so I drilled a hole in the cabinet so the water would go to the bilge area. I also found that the water was coming in from the life line areas and that was repaired.
