Hello again Hunter Owners;

Thanks for your all your advice in the past, I've got another question for you;

Has anyone replaced the full set of cushions in their craft lately? I have a lady upholsterer referred from a good friend who went through the quality of foam and cover material. We really took our time, she was thorough and knowledgeable.

In all, my Hunter 23' needs all 10 cushions replaced. I was estimating about $1,000 should do it, but she came in somewhat higher than that, after assuring me that she was being reasonable, competetive and using the best materials. I did actually review the sample materials & specs, they are marine grade, durable and attractive.

Is $1,500 reasonable or should I look for another vendor? :confused:

Anyone done this lately?

Thanks.

I can't help on all the cushions but I had my 5 cabin cushions recovered in sunbrella material for $500. This was using my foam which was in good condition.

I used US Yacht Cushions (I usually talked with Marcy there). They are reasonable and do a great job. They didn't have patterns for my 1998 H260 cushions, so I sent them my covers and they duplicated them. It wasn't cheap, but it was a good, fair job. I'd recommend them too.

I just had mine done on my 30. It was $2,100.00 for all cushions, new foam, new material. Replacing the original cushions was a condition of buying the boat as per the Admiral. We're delighted with them. I was getting prices on the order of 1000-1200 just to recover them. It seemed sensible to go for foam and all, since the boat is 31 years old now.

Hi Pete,

I purchased my 1987 Hunter 23' three summers ago and replaced all the cushions myself. I bought new foam cushions in a firm density patio furniture foam from a foam shop outside Binghamton, NY in August 2007. I dropped off the original cushions and they cut all new cushions perfectly. I paid $375 for all. The company is Cook Foam Products, phone 607-723-1802. You might also be able to ship your original foam there and have them ship the new ones back. After I bought my boat cushions from Cook, I dropped off about six or eight cushions from patio furniture for my Sister and Cook shipped them back to her beach house on Long Island. I think they shrink wrapped them, sent them UPS, and charged her around $40.

I reused my original corduroy covers after extensive washing and minor repairs I was able to do on my sewing machine. Unfortunately the original covers shrunk a bit due to the use of HOT water and a dryer. A seamstress or upholsterer could make new covers from existing ones.

Best of luck,
SecondWind sailing in the Finger Lakes of NY
