Hello again, I've redoing the '76 H30 I just bought and the carpeting on the walls is in rough shape. I saw that some have done the inside of the hulls (the walls) in teak and holly. Does anyone know if a source for some nice looking stuff that's easy to apply.
I've seen some that's 1/4 thich that might be a little tricky, but I've seen some that looks like vinyl that looks like it would be easy to install, but would probably look like cheap shelf liner.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob, do you have any links to share to the interiors you like. I am is a similar situation putting together a restoration project. If you could post some picts or links it would be appreciated.
Anyone else's input are also appreciated. Recently that other forum ran a thread of show me your interior. I don't want to highjack your thread and will start another it you disagree.
Thanks,

I saw a boat where they partially sanded the fiberglass weave pattern and used high gloss white paint. Looked fab.

I'm not redoing the layout of the interior, I just want to remove some of the carpeting on the walls, and put up something a little newer, nicer and nautical.

Guys, I've got to tell everyone how much fun it is to upsize to this H30. And the support, cooperation and enthusiasum of this group makes it even more rewarding. Thanks to everyone. I wish we were all at the same marina and could sail together. With that said, if anyone gets near the Charlotte, NC area look me up. We'll go for a boat ride!

The carpeting on the walls is also the trim, in the corners at the bulkheads it is not square or straight or even at all. I think you would have to reshape the corners before you could make anything other some carpet or material look good. I removed my carpeting as well and at this point have painted the V and rear quarter berth with interlux. I have looked at a few different ideas like auto ,or indoor out door carpet but have not found any foam backed material to replace it with.

Review the various Cherubini photo projects in "Hunter Owner Mods" under the "Boat Info" tab. Especially the H30, H33, and H37C. Many of us have removed the carpet. Here is one example: http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/in...7&cat_id=23&aid=7491&page=article&mn=30_74-83 .

I still have mine because of the lack of time and the fact that it still serves well. It is warm and cozy even though it does not look the best. If I do ever change it I want to first insulate well, probably between vertical one by one ribs. Not sure how to cover it but probably with something like a vinyl covered foam, like an auto headliner. Wood is my favorite for looks but not for warmth and upkeep.

I had a H28.5 with carpeted walls and had plans to replace it with 1" wide teak slats bonded to a cloth backing. They were sold in 36" and 48" lengths and would be very managable to conform to hull using a spray adhesive on the cloth backing. I traded the boat but still think its a good option.

Here is what the 1" wide teak slats bonded to cloth could produce (above post)

I have recently completed a removal and replacement of the original carpet and foam backing on the interior walls. I used a heavy vinyl textured wall liner. It is waterproof and conforms to the many curves very well. It looks clean and bright. It was easy to apply with carpet adhesive. Extra thick cushions and a teak set of anchor lockers doors really make it nice too.

I there a reason that the slats are bonded to cloth?
Is there a purpose to the spacing between the slats?
Could the slats be glued or nailed to upright firing bonded to the glass?

Bill1565 I thought about smoothing the walls out and painting, but is condensation a concern?

I have a H33 and just this Sunday recovered the one side with aromatic eastern cedar panels: tongue in groove, 2" x 8 ft. wide, I got them for $4.00 a piece and they are just great
I removed the carpets and burned the fluff left behind with a a small propane burner; then scraped the fluff off, made furring strips and scored them so they could bend; I glued them to the hull with Liquid nail (heavy duty-construction kind) and used 2 x 4's to prop up
Then I glued 1/2 " insulation panels in between ( 1 whole sheet was enough for the port side, $ 8.00 each
I then placed the cedar panels from the bottom up, and used a nail gun (this was not so efficient, because the nails were not deep enough- I will used some wood screws, countersunk: I was scared of going through the wood, and have hundreds of little holes
Because they are connecting to each other, they fill nicely
I left the top one without nails, so I can reach the toe rail nuts, in case I need
It looks superb!
And I am not staining the boards, so they let out a nice smell, boat looks great
I look forwrd to do the staboard side and the V berth; my neighbour in the marina has a similar boat and he used pine panels and stained them; I credit him with the idea
I see if I can post pictures here

Jorge what did you use for the upper walls and ceiling?

You mean what wood?
Cedar planks 4" x 8ft. long, tongue & groove
Do you mean the ceiling of the boat?
I only went as high as the pictures: above the last upper panel is the long wooden teak handrail, and above them are the port holes
The roof (whatever you call it) is polished fiberglass, which is in great shape
I have of course to finish off the edging with trimmingetc
Have I answered your question? I only removed the carpeted area, which was all moldy and ugly
I can send more pictures of the carpeted area BEFORE i did all that is in the photos
Please let me know
Jorge

Jorge, the cedar looks great. I stopped by Home Depot today and while looking for their hardwoods I came across their redwood planks. They are 3 3/8''w x 5/8'' thick x 12ft. long. They are selling for $15. The 5/8'' seemed a little thick but I can cut with band saw at school and reduce them to a little over a 1/4''. The price come sout to about $2/sq ft. The planks look like they are all quarter sawn, clear with no knots. I wet them and the grain is beautiful.
Thanks for posting it was really helpful.
BTW my portlights just arrive and they look great.
