Too much Varnish on Cabin Sole?

Hi everyone,
I'm redoing the cabin sole on my '79 H33. I stripped (the old finnish that it is) and sanded down to the bare wood and, so far, have three coats of polyurethane down. It's looking pretty good right now, but I was considering laying down another coat or two. Is there such a thing as putting down too much varnish? What would be the advantages or disadvantages of using more?
I used three coats the last time I did it and it lasted pretty good for about five years. Would I be helping or hurting by using more?

Is it gloss or satin? If gloss then more coats will last longer. If satin, it will also help with protection but more coats will cloud the finish and make the grain hard to see.

all I can say is Ultimate sole.... One of the best products I have ever used.

If you want a satin finish on varnish the usual practice is to lay on as many coats as you want with gloss and only use satin for the last one or two. That will avoid the cloudy appearance.

I very much agree with NYSail about Ultimate Sole. I lightly sanded all my salon sole boards and put on 2 coats of Ultimate sole with a light sanding after the first. Great durable finish. You can lightly sand your last coat ug urethane and put down a coat or two of Ultimate Sole.

mine are not varnished as i donot enjoy the slide i get while underway should they get wet or even damp---after i clean mine well--i use salt water if i need to scrub and i also use murphys oil soap in the spray bottle for dirty hands grease and heavy dirty boot wear---then i hand rub a light coat of orange oil.....my teak and holly soles are perfect.....engine oil comes out from them very easily,water beads up on it for a year or more--mine are working 1 1/2 yrs now.. and i do not slide...as the coat is very light, i keep the beautiful teak color with nourishment for the wood finish--satin-- without the fatal slide......

I just got on the Ultimate Sole web site http://www.ultimatesole.com/ with no problem. They are selling their product through a retailer now instead of direct. We have our sole done with it and use it for other things all over the interior, including the shower grates. It has a great shine, resists water and it is not slippery at all. We have tried other products and this is the one we like the most. Chuck

Ultimate Sole is out of business. They left the site up but they are essentially gone. There may be some old stock out there but no company behind it anymore.

If you want a low slip floor finish any of the true gym floor finishes will perform similarly to Ultimate Sole. From my understanding this is essentially what Ultimate Sole was, a gym floor finish..

I bought a whole lot of gym-seal years ago in five gallon pails. I think I have four or five left. You need xylol to clean the brushes
