Tommays , You don't need to be concerned about salt used for ice control .There is about 60 pounds of salt in a cubic yard of sea water. That is about 18 feet x18 feet one inch deep.
But this article about the passenger pigeons is worth reading.

Not to be glib, but I wonder how much organic waste is from fish and other sea life vs. the potential waste from boaters?

The feces from fish is less then the plankton they consume. If you have ever kept an aquarium then you know how much filtering it needs.

Well there's a new governor in Va, maybe he'll help by getting Va to join Md in restricting the menhaden take.
We in Md have to look at ways to increase menhaden where we can.
The theme I've taken is the bay is mostly in Md and we don't have to be victims. We don't have to accept a dirty bay because another state or the Fed is slow or won't help. We need to find solutions and we need them yesteryear. We're decades behind. We have control of much of the problem areas and we know some of the things to do and we need to do them.
Don't allow excuses. Our bay is holding tank and it needs pumping.

Yep it sucks that some states try to conserve a resource and other states just exploit the resource even more. Menhaden don't know the boundary between VA and MD.
