I don't understand what you were saying with your hands but I can tell you were having a good time on the water.
Was it something like "hey, we should have dropped anchor instead of drifting aground." lol

The impression given by the video is that all aboard the boat are hearing impired. They are definitely having fun and I applaud their carefree spirit but safety considerations under certain conditions depend on sound warnings and notices. Having a hearing person aboard should not cut their fun down and would enhance safety for all around. What is wrong with social integration?

Benny,
I didn't see anything that indicated one way or the other if any or one or some could hear. Only that they all appear to sign. I don't sign, so they could have been faking and I wouldn't know. Looked like fun, though.
Sailerdude, what kind and size boat?
Also, did you all actually make the 1,200 mi.?

benny...dont give me that crap about social integration...do you integrate deaf people into your sailing trip? Do you know that deaf people generally are better with their eyes and develop a 6th sense about things since they are deprived of one? so maybe you should bring one of us to your trip! My point here is that we can do whatever we want to do without your guys help...yeah it would be nice in some situations when we needed to talk to hearing people about things such as engine n etc but other than that...i really dont see any advantage hearing people have over deaf people in this kind of trip..as for alarms n sounder n etc...we have people on board who could hear things like that including me

shooter...it was 1977 Cal 27 boat...pretty sturdy but didnt have the best engine in the world- farymann diesel..if we had yanmar then things would have been different and yes we made it to south florida

If you can see through fog and handle the VHF radio you get no argument from me.

sailerdude,
I knew it was a Cal 27! My brother had one in the eighties. He never let me on it. That's another story. The non-skid and and deck color kind of gave it away. I'm guessing it has been redone. Looks good in the video. Is she yours? What's her name? Ever get down by the West/Rhode rivers or Thomas Point?
Hope to see you on the bay. I do understand waving.

I applaud the adventure and admire the attitude. Some of the earlier problems in the trip were avoidable, like having an anchor ready at all times, but a young, strong crew can overcome a lot.

As soon as I have my business making money with out me there. I leave to Taiwan Monday, so the Chinese can build my machines. I have a salesman to sell them and my partner will take care of everything while I go galavanting across the Gulf. I intend to leave in the spring or summer. I'll be coastal hopping so my chances of catching a hurricane are as good as if I sat still. But life doesn't always go as planned. I'll keep planning and we'll see what the Lord deals me.
And yes your piece of crap will out sail my piece of crap...for now.
