I went up to work on Oh Joy today with my Grandsons Isaiah and Alex. I had them sanding in the stern and the hull while I built some more parts.

Izzy sanding in tight spots with the Sonicrafter.

Alex working some ribs.

Getting some deck beams done.

Other work the boys did aft.

Aft clamp scarph joint.

I think I need to lengthen that some more.

A piece of the clamp I removed. Nasty eh?

I might've gotten more done today if I hadn't run off without my new Sonicrafter blades.

Looking good and glad you had some help. However, you may wish to think twice about having them sand painted areas on the boat without masks as the paint may contain lead. Perhaps you checked it already though and apologies if you have.

The sanders except the little Sonicrafter have dust collection, the orbital by shop vac. We ran outta masks after lunch when they were sanding the enamel paint in the hull. No lead there but thanks. Ya can't think of everything sometimes...

Glad to hear it.

I figured that you probably had things covered. Kids and lead don't mix. I hope you had a nice holiday.

It was decent. I've, unfortunately, been on holiday since March... I'm looking forward to a change after Jan 1. Might not get as much boat work done but at least I can buy materials.

Ya know, I get that a lot but working on a wood boat is really simple. A wooden boat is nothing but a few thousand little jobs done right. I think I'll write a post about that fact...

Almost everybody looks at the whole job and says "I can't do that it is too much, too complex." But if they break it down to one little piece at a time it becomes manageable.
Can you make a chair? no. OK. can you turn one chair leg? yes? good now turn another and when you have four make a chain seat. That is how it is done. If you stay with it you can furnish a dining room.
