At some time in your life you will be faced with a mast light failure. In a discussion elsewhere I caught myself opining that perhaps 50% of boats in a given marina would have at least one mast light failure. In my last boat none of the mast lights worked and in my current boat I started out with a working anchor light an a non-functional steaming light and think I am down to none again now.
I also opined that, between my own experiences and from what I have seen...it seems that you are never lucky enough to have it just be a bulb...even though every boat seller instantly proclaims a light failure to be just that. I had recommended that a fellow sailor with a new to him boat bite the bullet and just rewire his mast, since it was already down, rather than take a chance on his existing and likely short lived existing wiring.
So. I figured I'd take my pessimism out for a test ride here and poll all of you.
(a) Do all of your mast lights function?
(b) Have you ever had just a bulb burn out?
(c) What can we all do to avoid this merry go round in the future when we break down and rewire our masts.
Thanks in advance.
