Engine Salvage Parts?

I have been trying to find anyone who has/sells salvaged engine parts but so far have not been successful. I'm looking for a useable head for my Yanmar 2QM15 and don't want to pay the cost for a brand new one. Does anyone have any experience locating used parts or know where I can find used parts for my 30 year old Yanmar?

Is it beyond rebuilding? A local machine shop should be able to help you.

My current head is cracked and not repairable. I don't want to spend over $2,000 for a new head for an old engine. IF I can find a good take-out, I will try to get some more life out of the old Yanmar. If not, I will try to find a way to re-power with a new engine.

Yes, I did see it. I'm not inclined to spend that much money for another OLD engine but it is something to consider.

Gary, that engine was most likely also used in one of the Yanmar tractors.. If you want to invest some "sweat equity" you may be able to cross reference it to the tractor and find a used head from a tractor parts supplier. Easiest is to find the part number of the old head and search tractor places.. best is to carry the head into a place that works with Yanmar tractors and ask 'em what tractor it came from and do they have a used one.. We were able to do this when buying pistons for a Westerbeke that was a marinized Mitsubishi tractor motor.. Mitsu has some parts agreements with Westerbeke that prevent them from selling the part if they know it is going to a marine engine.. so be careful how you ask. Oh.. the identical piston was 50% less than from Westerbeke. You won't find that kind of discount with Yanmar parts because they made the tractors too..
Some lawn services used Yanmar tractors from that era and once you know the tractor model that used that engine, you may find one in a junk yard too..

You might try ebay. I've been keeping an eye on it as I'm looking to replace an OMC saildrive with diesel and spotted a 2gm that sold a few days ago. It needed a crank and a rod. You might see if you can contact the buyer or seller and see if the head is available. Although maybe the 2qm and 2gm are too different.

give this guy a call in houston texas.......Gary @ miracal auto salvage 832 473 8427....he may have something off a salvage sailboat.....i will try to find some others this weekend i am going to fla a shop some used boat parts stores and will let ya know when i get back next week

Claude, I took your advice and did some searching. I think the Yanmar 2TR13A (from the YM155 tractor) may be the same engine. The head price (new) is less than half. I have not been able to find any salvaged/used parts yet.

Greenport, on the North Fork of Long Island, has a store that used to be a house. It sits several blocks inland from the chandlery on the waterfront, on a corner. The store has mostly new stuff inside, but out back they have alot of used parts. Maybe someone on here knows the name?
