I find it hard to believe that you are having problems with power with an 8 hp on a 22 footer. Fuel efficiency I can understand, but 8hp is plenty of HP on a 22 footer in my opinion and experience (had an 8hp and 9.9hp on a 3500 lb 25 foot Lancer 25). What exactly are your issues?

I have them on my Evinrude Yachtwin 8

They are good quality heavy SS. They do help with cavitation. I put them on to also help with shielding the prop for some level of added safety. I can't say how much efficiency they add to the drive but theoretically they should make some difference. I have to agree with Bob that if your 8HP is running as it should you should have plenty of power. I've always thought I could down size from my 8HP on my 22. I'd consider the added weight. They are somewhat heavy and installed on the end of a long lever.

Are Sailing on Lake Dillon?

Perhaps the problem is the altitude and your motor needs to be adgusted for that. I lived in Denver in the early '80s and had that problem with a couple of cars.

8HP - Honda

My Mac26s came from CO. I believe it had plenty of power for the previous owner. (It also never had the jetting changed for that altitude.)

I would think a 6hp would be more than enough for your size boat.

PS - I do have the power thruster. I purchased it mainly to protect my rudder.
Good quality - works great. Can't really say it increased actual thrust but I never had any problem with that.

Sounds like something is wrong with your 8hp

I Wonder if the Problem with the Motor is the Motor?

An 8HP motor on a 22' boat should push it to hull speed at less than half throttle. More than that is very little gain in speed and just more noise and more gas. It may even get the prop cavitating.

How fast does the boat go?
