Port side barnacles

Since I have owned this boat it has always accumulated barnacles on the port side only. The boat - '77 Hunter 30' hangs on a mooring for 6 months a year. I thought it might be the head pump out but I have never pumped out to the sea. I always use the holding tank. The boot stripe is gel coat with wax.
I also need the link to Maine Sails hull sanding and waxing guide as you can see by the photo.

they are probably growing on the side that is predominantly towards most sun throughout its stay on the ball?---what direction does it face on the trailor or alternative location?? are they mainly on the waterline?? waterlines are easy to clean from a dink at the boat in the bay--i do mine frequently when i am home....donot have to sand those--too small--just scrape them off with a plastic scraper lol...is soo easy!! can be done in the water !!!!

From your picture it seems the port bootstripe spends time under water. As there is no anti-fouling on the bootstripe the buggers get a good hold. Further evidence is the scum above the bootstripe. It would appear your boat lists on the ball. Is it weight distribution or prevailing winds or current or tide or ???

Since we are tide and wind dependent it does not seem realistic to say one side geets more sun than the other. Interesting idea though.

The scum is from the dirty harbor water and appears on both sides equally. The boat is also well balanced on the mooring. I do not remember seeing the port boot stripe under water except for passing waves. ???

Barnacles grow best where there's sunlight, check out pilings around your marina. Your boat even while on a mooring has a predominate port-side angle to the sun. In contrast, scum accummulates everywhere along the waterline.

my 2 boats are wind and tide dependent---tied to a mooring block utilizing only one point on th eboat as an anchoring point.....yes we DO have weather side and sunny side---morning and afternoon suns are different--angles and warming capabilities......check it out on your boat....i have been on this mooring for 10 years---yes we do have differences in th emanners in which morning and afternoon sun affect the boats and which side faces sun in winter--is also to be accounted into this---makes a difference--and--is tide stronger than wind today or vice versa---all affect which side comes to face sun......barnacles do no tneed constant water---lol as long as seed is planted they come .......on sunny side of boat......even if not merely morning an dafternoon sun--many places have tidal changes with current stronger than wind---will turn your boat so one side faces sun-----lol-----sun crossing boat---but boat following tide--

I had the same problem and I raised the waterline so I keep the bootstripe out of the water. Barbacles don't grow above the water line, they only grow in water. At some point the bootstripe is under water, possibly when you are on the boat, sleeping in the berth or whatever.
