You probably still have time to change your mind about using it...
Polyurethanes cure via moisture so it is not always as easy as how long at 70f. 70f and 80% RH will cure faster than 70f and 10% RH.
3M States that at 50% RH, a sealant thickness of 1/8" and a temp of 70f will result in a cure in five days.
5200 is usually tack free in 24-48 and cures in 5 - 14+ days depending upon RH and temp.
I'm sure most people who visit this site have real names. It would be nicer to talk with people who would like to share their real names. But I digress.
I've been using 3M5200 for several years now and have no regrets. Unlike what some people say, it does not produce a permanent hard bond. If I want strong holding power, such as below the water line where I do not want a bond to fail, I use it. If I want something less strong, such as above the water line, I use 3M4200. But again I digress.

I just put some 5200 slow cure on my inflatable drain valve. It was in an air conditioned room(so low humidity) and it was tacky 48 hours later. I waited a week before I put it in the water.
It is a noticeably harder substance than 4200, which I am using to seal everything on the deck. I think 5200 is best if I am going to screw a wood screw into something with out properly potting the hole.

I just used some 4200 and found it needed a lot of pressure to get it to come out of the squeeze tube. Can it be had in cartridge form for the caulking gun? Is it normally hard to squeeze out by hand in the small tubes, or do I have a old tube because it's requires a good amount of pressure to have it come out?

All boat owners should be required to get a note from their mother before being allowed to purchase 5200.
Ctskip, time to buy a new tube instructions say to use entire tube within 48 hours iirc, but if you keep it capped, you can usually get a couple of weeks out of a tube.
I used 5200 to add some tabs to screw the new headliner into, took about 48 hours to setup, hasn't pulled loose yet and is easier to use than epoxy.

My fuel tank has a fiberglass top with a stainless inspection plate held down by 8 nuts. The studs for those nuts are really bolts that were glassed in place from the underside of the tank. Two of those bolts have broken loose. Since the heads are inside the tank they are inaccessible once the cover is on so I won't be able to tighten those buts. Reglassing them would be pretty tough. My plan is to 5200 them in place. I want something that will not break loose.
You have an old tube. I won't buy sealant online anymore. One tube of 5200 I got was very old and was very difficult to get out of the cartridge. That was from marinediscountsupplies. I ordered a cartridge of 4200 from hamilton and it was very easy to use. Almost like it was too easy.

There are many, many reasons an individual may choose not to use his or her real name on-line. Some take privacy seriously and I know of a few members who have been on the receiving end of internet stalking, some may also work for companies that ask their employees to keep low "google profiles" (as mine does), some may post here during work hours and want to remain anon so they don't show up in a google search as posting during work hours, and some of us just do what is safe internet practice and use a screen name.

Here's some more info on the product that may help.
"Limitations -
- Alcohol should not be used in preparation for bonding as it will stop the curing process, causing the adhesive to fail..
- Heat resistance - Due to the decreased value in bond strength at elevated temperatures, we do not recommend use of this product above 190°F (88°C).
- Do not apply at temperatures below 40°F (4°C) or on frost covered surfaces. Do not apply at surface temperatures above 100°F (38°C).
- 3MTM Marine Adhesive/Sealant 5200 is not recommended for use as a teak deck seam sealer. Extended exposure to chemicals (teak cleaners, oxalic acid, gasoline, strong solvents and other harsh chemicals) may cause permanent softening of the sealant.
- 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant 5200 is not recommended for the installation of glass, polycarbonate or acrylic windows that are not also mechanically fastened with a system designed by the manufacturer. Inconsistent adhesion of these unprimed substrates, specific design of the window, and movement due to thermal expansion and flexing, may cause application failure. It is strongly recommended that the customer contact the window/port light/hatch manufacturer for recommendations on proper sealing procedures.
- When using 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant 5200 with metals, it may be necessary to prime the surface to achieve adequate adhesion and durability of the bond. Scotch-WeldTM Structural Adhesive Primer EC- 1945 B/A may be used for priming of most metals."

I regularly use 5200 as a seam compound for the joint between the hull and keel. I never used more than 1/3 of the tube, and it always hardened up so it wouldnt come out of the tube between uses and I had to throw it away. I was talking about this with an old salt that worked in the marine supply.
He said try this: put the tube in your freezer between uses. I did after about an hour of thawing out it worked fine after being in the freezer 3 mos

After opening the tube, a tiny amount of vaseline spread entirely around the base of the 5200 tube cap will also extend its shelf life.
I just bought this tube two weeks ago and it was never opened. I finally decided to use it. I think I should bring it back. I have to squeeze it like I'm choking a boa constrictor that has wrapped itself around me. It did work great, it just doesn't want to come out of the toothpaste size tube. It figures. I'll try the tricks sent to me . Thanks

Many of these sealants have a shelf life. If I had a $1.00 for every expired tube of sealant I've bought, even unopened, I might be further along towards retirement. I buy all my stuff at Hamilton and even there, where they go through tons of it, I still get bad tubes. Hamilton always takes them back no questions asked. Sadly there is no good way to tell if it is good or bad, in a cartridge, that I have found..

Zero frustration here, just nicer. When I talk with people in real life (internet excluded) it is nicer to know the name (first name okay) of the person with whom I'm having a conversation. There are always consequences with giving someone your name even in real life. I suppose to avoid any we could all assign ourselves a handle of sorts. That way we all could avoid any kind of personal attachment. Perhaps from now on I will have a new monicker.

I did have an incident on a different site that made me decide not to use my full name on the net. If not using my full name is a problem for some.....oh well.
Thanks for the info on 5200. Though it is cool at night around here, I have been using a light to keep temps up. I will probably put the cover back down in the next day or so and find out if I got those bolts glued in well enough.
