Beautiful job Rich!With winter approaching I've turned my efforts to making a frame for the shrinkwrap so I can continue working on the deck and cabin.

I'm trying to sketch out and calculate my wireing diagrams. I ordered 16 g marine cable, but now realize that it is not heavy enough for the circuits as drawn due to voltage drop. so i am going to send back the incandescent lights and order..gulp...LED. they are alot more, my wife is going to kill me. But i can't really send back the cable without paying a 30% restock fee, plus shipping, plus the 10 gauge cable is around 100 dollars more per roll, that would eat up the cost savings of the incandescent lamps righ off.
That is a brilliant idea. I've got a lot of work to do this winter to prep my decks to be refinished so I wonder if I could find a way to erect something like this without supporting it on a stern rail (don't have one) or bow rail (being replaced).

You give new meaning to bimini. What about snow and winds?

Is your boat on a trailer? Attach the covered wagon pipes to the trailer. Or just continue the pipes to a base on the ground. There is ia guy near me that makes these things out of aluminum pipes to cover cars, trailers, and RV's.
Just depends on $$$ and time.
Just think with a heater and stove pipe, Rich could sail year round...

Keith's approach
Less fancy lights require less wire. You are overkilling the project. KISS Keep It Simple Stupid.
Consider that the boat will sink from over gross weight with that much wire.
Hang a battery operated reading light when wanted or needed. Or read in the cockpit? Do you really need all that light? Going to sail to the north pole in winter?

gee, maybe you could rent it out for the winter to pay for the mooring. all you'd need is a garden hose and extension cord : )
dang you guys get mean in the off season. We sail year round down here so we stay friendly all winter.....

ed k (aka capt satan) you are right, i am overdoing it. i just felt like if i was running wire, it was not any trouble, or cost only a few bucks more to put l lights everywhere. I am really pleased with how comfy the vbirth is now, nice lights, clean dry fabric, and the painted bulkheads really make the cabin feel light and airy
so far so good. I really want the cabin nice since we regularly use it as our getaway at the sail club.

Hell with the sail club, take the boat to the Gulf Coast. Think Port St. Joe, Fla. Now that would be getting away...
Of course you might attract the Fed's attention. Why a $50,000 boat? Growing plants in your backyard? Meeting someone off the coast?

I took a post hole digger and sunk the pvc in the ground a foot or so. It pretty much just stays there year round. Saying that I had to take it up for the first time in 8 years this summer to have a tree trimmed. I just get a big blue tarp and cover it all for the winter, they usually last two years.
As for what I am doing now I still have a few more weeks of sailing if the weather will cooperate.

That boat must fly off that trailer. My old Load-Rite trailer was similar to that except that it was a single axle. I couldn't let the winch off unless I tied a line to the bow cleat and take two turns of a large bight of the rope around the winch stanchion. I used a 60' line and as soon as I removed the hook from the bow eye and let the wraps go, my boat would slide off my trailer fast and float about half way down our 110' of docks. One great thing about O'Day boats is, the hulls are solid enough to take a roller trailer. Some other brand sailboats require flat bunk trailers.

50 k, hell, i wish 50k, I bought four feet of 1"x7"x4' teak in atlanta last week...$112 american dollars.....my wife nearly passed out. I used part of it today to make some mounting plates for the running lights...... I measured twice you can bet..
