Whats the best paint that's legal in California waters ? I'm using Interlux Ultra now but I don't know if its gonna fly in California and Ill be getting a bottom job when my boat arrives is Alameda.

I've always used Z-Spar B-91 (Blue). With the help of a scrub every 3 months it will last at least 3 years. Don't have any experience with anything else.

pk, you'll find as much variation in bottom paint choices as there are different areas to sail around here. Generally, the yards know what they're doing, unless you have some other preference. Our yard's in our marina, so they know what works here on the estuary, but I haven't checked to see if the yard in the next marina over uses the same stuff. Because of my injury I'm pushing four years (Dec. 05) from my last haul, the diver's saying the paint's in poor condition, but the boat still moves quite well after he does his quarterly cleaning. Go figure. Have you found a place to re-rig yet? You did say Alameda, so h"owdy neighbor!" You'll also find that "California waters" covers a LOT of ground, and "northern California" and "southern California" are two separate worlds, as is south bay, north bay, the delta, etc. Specificity is relatively important here -- not only for the water!

I contracted w/ KKMI to do the re-commission and a bottom job so that's where they'll offload and put her back in the drink. Ive got a slip at Grand so we will be neighbors. Ill arrive on Nov.12. I'm going to drive and hang out for a few weeks to get things situated. I might need to take you up on that ride if the offers still good. Ill have to get my car back from KKMI to the marina. Id be happy to buy lunch & gas . Cant wait to get there and do some sailing. Maybe you could show me around the bay ?

petit trinidad sr is good---donot have to dive it--just sail it and cleans self.....works for 3 yrs and counting.....
Note: If you have to leave your boat or pick it up from KKMI, another convenient way to do it is to take BART (the Bay Area rapid transit system) and they will pick you up or drop you off at the nearest station.
