Newto me 28

I have just bought a 1983 Oday 28 that seems to be in pretty good shape.(surveyor rated it above average) It is currently in a yard getting new bottom paint and hull cleaning. Neither my wife or I are "sailors" but have done some sailing in the past including a Balboa 26 we owned in the time before kids. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with tips on cleaning, maintaining, sailing, etc. If there are any other 28 owners out there any specific tips would be great. Wish us luck!! Thanks, maxxx

I think that the OD 28 is one of the nicest boats that O'Day ever built. I like the lines of these boats. One of our YC members owned an OD 27 and he said that it was faster than his OD 25. So I'm thinking that the OD 28 must be equally fast on the water too. We have an OD 28 on a mooring down the river from our club and I admire it every time I sail by it in my OD 222. The only advice that I can give you is when cleaning the deck of this boat, don't use any deck cleaners, or any cleansers with Oxalic acid in it. This stuff will eat out the caulking under any deck hardware, including the gunwale moldings which will ultimately cause water leaks. Just use good old soap and water on her deck.
