I will need my boat to get to work...North Ga is way above average, and it is still coming down. Maybe I should start gathering two of each animal?

I'm gonna need a bigger boat.

Ed K, I am not sure I am bringing you along......;)

Keith.
P.s. my starboard quarter rub rail is leaking onto the hold through the through screws....dang it. It is happening far enough forward to cause the carpet in the galley to get wet.

How is the carpet in the galley getting wet from a leaking rub rail? Do you mean the inside hull covering?

Welcome to the club of leaking rub rails. Mine needs to be completely replaced. I doubt that another caulking will stop it. But mine leaks to the back bilge.

the screws for the rub rail poke through right at the top of the carpet all along the lenght of the boat, but the carpet is getting it's soaking from the instrument leaks, the water comes in, heads to the starboard side, and pours over the entire starboard rear quarter and the rear bulkhead, depending on how the boat is sitting. I will try to post a pic tomorrow.

Captain Noah, aka Keith, aka backyard sailor, aka ...

Keith,

Depending on your work schedule, I would fix it today since you have the boat handy. I have to drive an hour to visit boat.

Use copius amount of sealant. Reread the post for which sealant to use. Remember you are mounting plastic on FRP with ss screws. If you have some, I would use butyl tape based on my experinces and what you are sealing.

Remember that butyl tape can be had at RV supply places and glass installers. If you use bytal tape remember not to tighten immediately but allow time for gasket to form.

working on it, dang it is hot and humid. taking instruments off, using butyl tape. the face on one of the three (yes my boat has three non working depth finders mounted) is broken, it can't be tightned down because of that, so i am making and installing a tempory cover. also removing the wires. give me a chance to at least think of the wiring set up.

Three depthfinders...

Keith,

Temporary covers are just another source of leaks. Fix it right and glass them over. Any new ones are going to be wrong size. Learn how to color match gel coat.
