Hi,
Just wanted to know what you guys thought of the painted bulkheads with the teak. I think I like it. :)

Next I have to trim off the excess carpet.

Note in the second pic from the left, that the head area and the hanging locker are painted. I did the same with inner hull behind the lavatory. The teak is all finished in cherry and semigolss polyurethane. Everything went together pretty good.

Until now, I have not seen an oday 26 with painted bulkheads. It seems to lighten up the interior.

Is it too "progressive" Ed K?

Keith,

It does brighten things up. But if you sleep over, any light with also reflect and unless you sleep in sunshine, that may be an issue later.

The bulkheads are usually made in teak for boats of this era to convey a "nautical feeling" or "salty feel". Many modern boats have gone to the easy care of molded FRP.

Molded FRP, to me is more durable because of less water damage. Your boat now has the modern all plastic look...

BTW, Joe Watson told the truth.

He didn't, and to make matters worse, he knows he didn't. Now HE is a politician, playing on emotions.

Keith -

It looks great to me. I like the clean look with the dark teak contrasting against the white. Your finish work is excellent. Keep posting the pictures.

Thanks dave, the teak turned out pretty nice. the painted bulkheads really don't look plastic. I used cherry paneling and did a really carefull job of surface prep. the finish is actually very nice. I still have a lot of the detail work to do. So far so good.
