ha..what kinda moron would put their stanchions on with the bails facing outboard!...ha...that would be STUPID..ha....what kinda brain dead should never go near a sailboat much less work on one newby would do that..ha..why that would be REALLY STUPID..ha

Jack, look back about a week under ask an oday owner to "weighing anchor under tight conditions" by trinka...it is where i learned of my mistake, about a day to late.

Hey Keith,
We all screw up. It's no biggie. If you're not planning on using those bails, don't bother to change them. If you have a roller furler, the bails come in handy for attaching small sheaves to them for the drum line. I don't know why the O'Day designers didn't think of that instead of installing those dumb plastic fail leads on the deck of my boat. The drum line cut a groove right through them. Speaking about my boat; I just pulled it out of the water yesterday and brought it home. No wind, lousy fishing, and cold mornings prompted me to call it quits for the season. I plan on taking her off the trailer next week and putting her on stands. It will be easier to paint the hull next year. She had a few barnacles on her bottom, but not too bad.

Joe, sorry about you and penny having to give up the season. I can tell you really enjoy being out there.
I am not sure if i will try to change the stanchions before I splash. I plan to put it off while I do other things. Yesterday I did some sanding on the rear bulkhead and galley cabinets. I am about ready to stain and finish those. I am also sanding the woodwork I removed for the forward head area. Most of that i can use again,but some of it is rotted. What type of finish did you use for the interior woodwork? I thought about using cetol.
Also i have installed the rear rail. Now i need to reattach my winches. I may be slowed down as flu season is hitting full force here and i am getting called in early to work.
Also I have a pretty bad sore throat since yesterday. I don't think it is the flu though, because I can still sit up!

Cetol is a pretty good choice, I guess. I used a regular spar varnish on my woodwork. I wouldn't worry about the lifeline stanchions. In fact, I would do whatever needs to be done on the outside hull to get her ready for the water. The inside can be finished anytime later on.
I don't mind being out of the water. The boat is sitting on the trailer right next to my house, and I am in it every day.

There is nothing worse than a sore throat. Take two aspirins and let them slowly dissolve under your tongue. Then let them slowly coat your throat. It tastes horrible but it always works for me. No charge for the medical advice.

Trinkka - Thanks for the sheaves idea. I too have that dumb plastic block that is almost worn through plus it is not at the correct angle. I will try a block at the first "bail", new term to me. I was using the bails to route the furler line after the dumb plastic block.

Joe, I googled Drum Line but can't find it, except in music. Could you explain, or with a picture, show me what you mean by drum line and plastic fail leads
