Hi Keith,
On my boat, I have two lifeline stanchions on each side of my boat, and each stanchion base has a built in bail. I attach one snatch block to each of my two Starboard lifeline bases. The snatch blocks that I have are real heavy duty and they both can open up so that you can insert the line on to the sheaves. I'm sorry, I don't have any pictures of this set up. I meant to take pictures of them in action one morning when I had to use them, and it was so foggy that morning that I didn't think the pictures would come out too well. I'll set it up next week and take some pictures of it. But snatch blocks are detachable blocks that are designed to open up so that you can merely place the line right on the sheave and close it back up without having to thread the line through it. The blocks that I have are pretty pricey if you buy them new. I picked mine up at a marine consignment store in Newport RI for about $40.00. They usually sell for about $100 a piece brand new. I'll try to get some pictures and post them on this forum. There are other ways to kedge your boat out of a tight position with an extra anchor, but this way is so simple, safe, and easy, that it really bares mentioning.

Joe,
thanks for the info, i googles the snatch blocks and found some info under a website devoted to off road four wheeling.
do you worry about pulling the sanchion loose or at least breaking the seal on the sealent?
