Has anyone seen the plans for a TV antenna?? Also, is it actualy better than a mast mounted Shakespeare?? I get terrible reception with my Shakespeare. i am currently in Stuart, FL but had similar bad luck in several other locations from Texas to Charleston.

It could be my installation but maybe the homemade model will help me isolate the problem.

Powered antenna and converter

the best results i have seen are with a powered dedicated TV antenna mounted on the mast head area combined with one of the new analog to digital converters.

We are using a RCA 1500 Passive antenna that we are having some luck with. The nice thing about this unit is that it mounts on a flat surface and does not need any power. We are using it with a NAXA556 AC/DC TV and normally has good reception. Our area is on the fringe so some stations come in pixelated at times.

the above quoted description is what I have it works great on the Chesapeake! Also worked in almost every stop on my trip to Block Island, Newport, Long Island, and New York City two years ago.

I have a Glomax mounted at the mast head, with a bypass amplifier with a variable gain pot. Then, I have an HD converter box, that cost me the $8.00 shipping fee with my Govt. coupon, that runs on 12 volt to get the digital channels. I get great reception all over the Chesapeake Bay. It is as clear as a cable feed coming out the wall of one's house. Only drawback is the limited selection of free over the air TV.

We have used a Shakespeare from Houston to South Carolina and we have the signal booster. We have never been without reception, even in the Everglades. We do have a digital TV. Right now in Beaufort, SC we pick up stations from Charleston and Savannah and the antenna on the new to us boat is 20 feet above the water. Chuck

shakespear 2020

I have the 2020 mounted at the top of my mast, no booster, and I get TERRIBLE reception, and what I think is sad is I was in chicago where I could SEE the broadcasting antenna's on the buildings, but I only got a couple channels and they continuosuly go out, I need to do something to improve....

Then I would suggest you have a problem with the installation somewhere since a metal coat hanger connected to the TV will bring in stations if you are not far away. It is possible if the antenna is old that there is something broken inside but most likely it is the coax or connections. Also the attachment for the coax at the TV should be checked. The stations we are picking up right now are 60 to 70 miles away. Chuck

I too am running the glomax omnidirectional UHF antenna at the masthead, with the amp. I am 45 miles away from the nearest transmitter inland, and I get 22+ digital channels, through a converter box.

I am extremely pleased with this rig.
