I am putting a 74 O'day 20 in the water for some fall test runs. The boat has been undergoing a long, patient and overbudget rehab. I have not done any electrical work yet and I will only be doing day sailing on a small inland lake. Question - What is my minimum lighting requirement, if any, for daytime sailing? What is my best option for on board emergency lighting?

For emergency lighting, temporary lights that mount at the bow and stern that simply clamp on are readily available.

While I also agree they are not required for day light operation you could always go with the battery powered flashlight type available at most marine store (i.e. dinghy lights). Just a thought in case you might stay out later then you think or a fog or something requires you to have lights.
I Looked it Up it is Not 26'
It is 7 meters (22.9') and that is good for vessels under power so long as they are not capable of more than 7 knots though the white light must be an all around white light.
Guess I was thinking about the requirement for flares. I wonder why the length is different between the two requirements?
