Anybody in the Marina Del Rey area have any used canvas I can use to shade my cockpit? I have one piece of blue so it would be good if it matched that somewhat.

You real should try white.

Blue looks good, but white is much cooler. I have done both.

Beggars can't be choosers. An old awning may be a good choice.

i use green plastic tarps and i use a length of green canvas--the tarps outlast the canvas--is plain canvas---there are some boat canvas shops have surplus bits and pieces----sometimes they actually have usable stuff---good luck--harbor freight has a canvas tarp that works well for 3-5 yrs......goood luck...save up for the sunbrella stuff and have one made!!!!

I made one out of a canvas painters tarp that I bought at Home Depot. They're an off white color and reflect the sun pretty good. It cost me about $15. If you wanted to make it big enough to cover the whole cockpit, it would cost about double that.

We bought a backyard deck umbrella at Wal Mart for $10. It works great, just have to move it around a bit during the day. Tie it onto the binnacle or dodger supports with bungee cord. Doesn't work when sailing, which is why they make biminis.

I used a painters tarp in Mexico. Have some grommets set into the edges, makes it easier to tie down. Big enough to shade the whole cockpit and most of the cabin.

I like the white painter's tarp idea and have some grommets kicking around. A boom tent for $30. I have been thinking about getting one but was having a hard time justifying all that $unbrella. That is awesome.
