Thanks to all for the info in my previous post, and now to share some thoughts from my first week aboard....
1) This is a pretty tight space! and I am not a big guy. It's going to be tough living aboard and keeping her is shape to show (yes-for sale).
2) Marinas are dark at night-always carry a light so you can see the tumblers for the lock (or just get a padlock).
3) If you need readers always have a pair on you to see the tumblers when you do have a light.
4) Pay close attention to the weather as you need to be on board before the storm breaks.
5) Be sure your battery charger is on or your lights/fans will go off.

I have gotten a book on living aboard and am still looking for more practical suggestions regarding space, eating, cooking, washing dishes (how-where), etc.

I am curious how you came to suggest the above items, glasses and a light? You did'nt lock yourself out did you? What book did you buy/read about living aboard? My dream in the next two years. Good thing the marina is dark-would't want to live downtown Vegas or anything. Congrats.

A cellphone will act as a light to read the numbers on the combo lock if you forget your flashlight. I did change to a key lock though. Now I don't even lock it at all because my companionway cover covers the whole thing so nobody knows it's locked or not anyway and if they really wanted in, it's easy to cut a lock. Besides, all my valueble stuff is on the outside of the boat, not the inside.

What's the book on living aboard? I have been living aboard my 32' Colombia sailboat for about 7 months and am really enjoying it. Have learned a lot though.

The first night on the boat after working unitl after dark I got to the boat and couldn't see the tumblers. I had a light in the car (thank god!) and it is almost the longest walk in the marina from my boat. Well, got halfway back and another resident boater was there and lent me his light--saved me a lot of steps that night.

Several nights later, I get down there and don't have my readers. Well I can't read squat without them unless its 16 font, so another hike-this one all the way down to the car.

I plan to post weekly or so on my "adjustment" and on anything I think might come in handy.

i think all agree to keep stuff to a minimum and use common sense---is alll easy and subjective, as far as i can see---LOL----questions answered for free and sail on out asap----have fun!!! propane works better than anything else fo rcooking and is readily obtained world wide--just use caution--one cannot have enough bubble stuff--yup--the kids toy--cheep and helps ye spot leaks!!!! clothing--who needs 'em!! LOL...wehenye use yer head(toilet) regularly, the rules are different from occasional use--use vinegar every week in the bowl--keeps things clean and fresh!!! and prevents salt clog buildup. i donot use any harsh chemicals in my boat---those are great in houses but hurt boats....go figger----vinegar does a lot of good for boats and the only chemical i do use is murphys oil soap in a spray ---it gets rid of soot from oil lamops and it helps the fiberglass and the wood parts---lol...have fun!! oh, and joy soap for dishes--does good stuff in salt water and then rinse the dishes in fresh water if you are going cruising is a big help--salt water breaks any deposits up and makes it easier to clean even left over yukky ones easily..no--dawn is NOT same as joy--different companies make them and dawn used to be gooood on greasy stuff--doesnt do quite as well in salt water as does joy....LOL
