Has anyone got some experience with the new Marine Elegance toilet from Raritan? Seems pretty good, but I'm not sure about being able to fit into my C36 MkII. Also, the discharge seems to need to go straight down, which is going to be tough to do.

I faced that discharge hose angle too

It is a full-size toilet, after all, but the footprint is very small on this unit and I honestly feel it takes up less space than the old manual Jabsco I replaced for it. The layout for mine required that I run the discharge hose out sideways from the head, and I had lots of trouble making that turn given that the toilet's discharge hose connector heads straight down. I couldn't seem to get a tight seal on the clamp with the turn in the hose. My local chandlery told me to put an elbow in which I did. He assured me the elbow wouldn't make a bit of difference in the operation, and it hasn't. If it fits in the space you have aboard, I would highly recommend this toilet.

Why do so many people try to bend a hose instead of using a 90?
You couldn't get the hose to seal because bending it too tightly pulled one side away from the fitting. That it leaked immediately was a good thing, 'cuz bending the hose too tightly would have caused other problems that might not have shown up for a while.
NEVER heat hose to make it bend tighter than it wants to bend willingly! Doing so will weaken the hose...'causing it to tear on the outside of the radius and/or kink. And this doesn't only apply to sanitation plumbing. When the bend is too tight at one end or the other, replace a straight fitting with 45 or 90...when it's too tight in the middle somewhere, break the hose and insert a 45 or 90 degree radius fitting.
Of course it wouldn't...and I've never understood why it never occurs to people to use a 90 or a 45 where one is needed. Most mfrs will send you one--or a straight if a 90 is supplied--for no charge...but they're cheap if you haven't planned ahead and need it now.

This is really great advice that a lot of us get to the hard way. I had been told by different people along the way (usually unsolicited advice) that the more connections on a discharge line like this, the greater the chance for failure, either from the connectors themselves or from the potential for clogging in making a corner during discharge. My local chandler was the first person who said it wouldn't matter at all, and to go ahead and put in the elbow.
Sometimes it's honestly hard to know when and if you're getting good advice. It's like the man who recently told me that a Purasan system wasn't a good waste treatment solution for my boat because it's strictly for inland lake use (I'm on the Columbia River) and doesn't use a salt system, and that I needed to instead get the Electro scan for my boat because he could get a good deal on it for me and could install it because that's what he does for a living. People like that are very convincing. In the end, you have to do the research and decide what works in your situation. I'm still going for the Purasan.
