We have a 1987 , 33ft. Irwin. We need to replace the cabin windows (fixed). There is an aluminun frame secured with rivets. How do we remove the frame to replace the window pane?
Thank you

The rivet heads have to be remove by drilling, grinding, or cutting with a coal chisel. I wish I knew os an easier way but I don't. Maybe someone else is smarter.

Good luck.

Thank you Joe. I wish there were an easier way also. After drilling those out, the metal frame-work is replaced with new material or rivets replaced in the same framework?
Thanks,
Susan

I think that if the original frame is good that you could reuse it. I don't think that I would use rivets however. I believe I would use machine screws with nuts on the inside. You could fasten them through a cut rubber gasket or a gasket made of caulking. That way , after it is set up in place and cleaned up you can tighten the seal a little more.

Good luck.

We left the frames in, cleaned them up and the result was grand.

Are there screws on the outside of the window that hold the plexiglass in? When we replaced ours we simply took the screws out. the aluminum frame on the inside was not affected. I suppose yours are totally different (our boat is older).

Yes - ours are screwed right through the Lexan.
